Sheriff’s report – June 2020

Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, June 30: At 1:30 am a deputy found a railroad crossing that was malfunctioning in Paton.

Monday, June 29: At 10:46 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 12:15 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on County Road P-46 (W Ave) near just north of Highway 30 east of Grand Junction.  Alejandro Lararo Perez, 28, of Madrid was northbound on P-46. He failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 30, and approached the steep grade to the railroad crossing going too fast. His vehicle went airborne and rolled several times before coming to rest in the west ditch on its wheels. Greene County Ambulance and Grand Junction fire and rescue responded the scene. The driver was transported to Greene County Medical Center with minor injuries. The vehicle was totaled in the accident. An arrest warrant for Lararo Perez for operating while intoxicated is being requested. He was also cited for failure to stop as posted.  At 11:23 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of E. Highway 30 in Grand Junction.

Sunday, June 28: At 7:19 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of 4th St in Rippey. At 3:15 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 3:23 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on Kirkwood Ave near County Road E-53 west of Jefferson. Zachary Goff, 17, of Jefferson lost control of a 2009 Chrysler Town and County minivan, striking a tree and rolling the vehicle onto its side. There were no injuries. Goff was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000. At 3:54 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 300 block of N. 13th St in Grand Junction. At 5:03 pm a deputy again investigated a complaint of trespass in the 300 block of N. 1 3th in Grand Junction. At 7:24 pm a deputy investigated a barn fire in the 200 block of 320th St in Willow Township. Fire departments from Bayard, Coon Rapids and Jefferson responded to the fire. At 10:46 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of  harassment in the 700 block of Harding Rd in Churdan.

Saturday, June 27: At 10:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of Head St in Churdan.

Friday, June 26: At 11:34 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 700 block of State St in Scranton.

Thursday, June 25: At 10:15 am the sheriff investigated a burglary in the 500 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 5:47 pm the sheriff and Grand Junction fire responded to a bus fire at Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. The bus had severe damage from the fire. There was no damage to the building. At 11:20 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 400 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, June 23: At 9:02 am a deputy conducted an eviction in Grand Junction. At 9;02 am a deputy investigated a phone scam in the 100 block of 210th St in Kendrick Township. At 12:22 pm a deputy investigated a phone scam in the 500 block of 110th St in Cedar Township. At 2:46 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Paton. At 3 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Grand Junction. At 8:24 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Rippey. At 8:29 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of fireworks in the 1100 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 9:28 pm the sheriff and a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a fight and an arrest in Jefferson. At 11:19 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 144 near 200th St north of Grand Junction. Paige Heaning, 18, of Rippey struck a deer with a 2013 Ford Taurus, causing an estimated $1,500 damage to the vehicle.

Monday, June 22: At 10:05 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey. At 1:55 pm a deputy arrested Adam Harvey, 43, of Grand Junction on a warrant for failure to appear. At 7:14 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident in the 1800 block of 195th St in Hardin Township. Michael Danley, 37, of Jefferson lost control of his 2015 Chrysler 200 and drove through a fence. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to the fence is estimated at $500. At 7:48 pm a deputy attempted to find an ill raccoon in the 600 block of Jay St in Churdan.

Sunday, June 21: At 4:27 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident in the 2300 block of Eaton Ave in Willow Township. Christopher Cosgrove, 36, of Marcus lost control of his 2007 Dodge Caliber and entered the ditch and struck a garage. The car was totaled and there is severe damage to the garage. Cosgrove was cited for driving while license suspended, failure to prove financial liability, and failure to maintain control. At 9:38 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned field implement on Highway 25 and 300th St in Willow Township.

Saturday, June 20: At 12:11 am a deputy investigated a vehicle in the ditch on County Road P-33  (S Avenue) near 195th St in Hardin Township. Mason Burkett, 21, of Grand Junction was arrested for operating while under the influence- first offense*. He was also cited for open container of alcohol- driver. At 6:59 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on Highway 4 near 330th St in Franklin Township.

Friday, June 19: At 11:19 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest. At 3:42 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of W. Main St in Grand Junction. At 8:55 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 2200 block of R Ave in Franklin Township. At 9:19 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 100 block of Eaton Ave in Cedar Township.

Thursday, June 18: At 2:53 pm a deputy assisted with a calf out on the roadway on X Ave near 120th St in Paton Township.

Wednesday, June 17: At 9:09 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Rippey. At 7 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of M Ave in Bristol Township.

Tuesday, June 16: At 9:52 am a deputy investigated a city ordinance violation in the 800 block of Main St E. in Grand Junction. At 7:02 pm a deputy assisted with locating a missing child in Grand Junction.

Sunday, June 14: At 3:54 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a runaway juvenile in Grand Junction.  The juvenile was located and returned to the residence. At 8:46 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of burglary in the 300 block of Main St E. in Grand Junction.

Saturday, June 13: At 9 am a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 2300 block of 330th St in Washington Township. At 9:36 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 100 block of Sunset Drive in Grand Junction. At 12:13 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 2200 block of R Ave in Franklin Township. Courtney Lynn Kern, 34, of Jamaica was arrested for driving while license barred*. At 3:10 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Grand Junction. At 3:50 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog bite from the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson.

Friday, June 12: At 12:13 pm a deputy assisted with locating a cow in the 1400 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Jackson Township. At 9:52 pm a deputy assisted with locating a juvenile in Grand Junction.

Thursday, June 11: At 8:29 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of Locust St in Scranton. Joseph Ray Thompson, 18, of Scranton was arrested for domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury*. At 10:07 pm a deputy investigated a noise complaint in the 600 block of Hagar St E. in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, June 10: At 4:56 pm a deputy arrested Dale Sanford Arey in Grand Junction for an active warrant for violation of a no contact order (two counts)*.  Kathy Louise Arey was arrested for violation of no contact order*. At 6:44 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 600 block of 14th St S. in Grand Junction. At 7:21 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 700 block of Walnut St in Scranton.

Tuesday, June 9: At 6:55 am a deputy investigated property damage in the 500 block of J Ave east of Churdan. At 11:20 am a deputy assisted the Scranton fire department in the 900 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 12:23 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1200 block of Grant Street in Scranton. At 4:22 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 2300 block of 330th St in Washington Township. At 9:14 pm a deputy investigated complaint of property damage in the 1600 block of Highway 4 south of Jefferson. At 10:26 pm a deputy responded to a possible house fire in the 300 block of 7th St S. in Grand Junction. It was found to be a controlled burn. At 23:11 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 600 block of 15th St S. in Grand Junction.

Monday, June 8: At 6:23 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1800 block of County Road P-46 (W Ave) in Junction Township.  Selvin Marales-Balcarcel, 32, of Fort Dodge was southbound when a deer came out of the west ditch.  Marales-Balcarcel struck the deer with his 2003 Chrysler Town & Country van. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,500. At 7:20 am a deputy investigated a missing person report in the 600 block of 13th St S. in Grand Junction.  The subject was located later that morning. At 5:12 pm a deputy assisted with locating a house fire call. The fire was in Dallas County and taken care by local fire departments.

Sunday, June 7: At 1:19 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 500 block of Main St E. in Grand Junction. At 9:17 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1600 block of County Road E-53 east of Jefferson. Tashina Sue Taylor, 37, of Jefferson was eastbound when the deer came out of the south ditch.  Taylor struck the deer with her 2014 Buick LaCrosse. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $15,000. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Taylor and a passenger sustained minor injuries that did not need medical attention.

Saturday, June 6: At 12:46 am a deputy investigated a domestic disturbance in the 1000 block of Main St E. in Grand Junction.  Adam Eugene Coy, 28, was arrested for domestic abuse assault*. At 12:16 pm a deputy investigated a verbal domestic disturbance in the 500 block of Main St E. in Grand Junction.  Dale Sanford Arey, 58, and Kathy Louise Arey, 50, were arrested for violation of no contact order*. At 10:57 pm a deputy made a traffic stop for no license plate in Grand Junction. Nathaniel Clark Aldrich, 32, was arrested for driving while license barred*.

Friday, June 5: At 6:46 am deputies responded to a call of a fight in progress in the 800 block of Main St E. in Grand Junction. At 5:35 pm a deputy investigated a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 30 and 16th St N. in Grand Junction. Jaun Joel Garza, 57, of Goodell, was westbound on Highway 30 preparing to turn south onto 16th St. Mathu Franklin Meiners, 27, of Alta was eastbound on Highway 30 and struck Garza’s vehicle.  The impact sent both vehicles into the southeast ditch.  Grand Junction fire and rescue was paged to the accident scene and two occupants from Garza’s vehicle were transported to the Greene County Medical Center for minor injuries.  Garza advised the glare from the sun obstructed his view and did not see the oncoming vehicle. Garza was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to Meiner’s 2017 Chevrolet Silverado was estimated at $8,000 and the damage sustained to Garza’s 2002 Toyota Sienna was estimated at $2,500. Both vehicles were towed from location. At 8:37 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of 16th St N. in Grand Junction. At 9:10 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of Rebecca St in Grand Junction.

Thursday, June 4: At 12:01 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a missing person report.  The individual was located by family later that morning. At 7:07 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 500 block of Main St East in Grand Junction. At 11:19 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of 15th St South in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, June 3: At 5:07 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on County Road E-53 (235th St) in front of the airport. At 5:47 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 700 block of E. Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 11:37 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 100 block of 190th St in Kendrick Township. Randall Venteicher, 51, of Scranton was arrested for domestic abuse assault- first offense*.  

Tuesday, June 2: At 8:55 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on 222nd Street and Highway 30 in Kendrick Township. Brenda Cain, 55, of Glidden lost control of her 1999 Buick Century and entered the north ditch, striking a culvert. There were no injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,200.  At 4:52 pm a deputy investigated an animal neglect complaint in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. At 11:48 pm a deputy, the Jefferson PD, Jefferson fire department, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a structure fire at Wahl-McAtee Tire & Service Center in the 1700 block of N. Elm St.     

Monday, June 1: At 4:02 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 900 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 6:37 pm a deputy investigated a phone scam in the 700 block of Harding St in Churdan.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
